Jack Clayton Norris, Jr.

- Savannah - Jack Clayton Norris Jr., 85, died Sunday, January 17, 2010. Born in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late Dr. Jack Clayton Norris and Elsa Parsons Norris of Atlanta, GA. He was predeceased by his sisters Mignon Norris and Elsa Dodd.

During World War II he served in the United States Navy in both the European and Pacific Theaters. His last assignment was aboard the U.S.S. Solace stationed in the Pacific where he served under his father, who was Medical Director of the ship.

He attended Emory University graduated from John Marshall School of Law with a LLB degree and passed the Georgia Bar.

He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 1 in Atlanta, Chi Phi Fraternity, Leadership of Savannah, Civitan Clubs in Atlanta and Savannah, served as past president of Life Underwriters Association, for many years he taught property and casualty pre-licensing classes. He was a past president of Isle of Hope Swimming Pool, was a member Savannah Yacht Club and served on the Vestry of St.Thomas Episcopal Church where he was a member for 50 years.

He was with Shenandoah Life, Palmer and Cay, Mutual of Omaha, Cowart and Associates life insurance companies.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Tina, his daughters Clair Craver and her husband Ted, and Salli Eve, son Jack C. Norris, III and his wife Daphne, and his grandchildren Dancy and Sarah Eve, and Carrie, Clayton IV and Austin Norris. He also is survived by his sister, Karen Sibley and her husband Jimmy, Tommy Eve and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2 St. Thomas Ave., conducted by The Reverend Richard Nelson. Burial will follow in the church garden.
